No Law but Love

"For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF'" (Galatians 5:14 NAS.

Law is incapable of making us love. But grace can do wonders to our dispositions. Before his conversion, Saul of Tarsus was a loveless man. He interrupted church services and invaded homes of Christians, dragging them off to jail. But he was a student of the Mosaic Law. Yet, Law did not make him kind and loving. Only the grace of God could accomplish that.

Some people like to live by law or lay down laws for others to live by. But the law can never do what love can do. Paul says the whole law can be fulfilled in one word – love – in one statement – you shall love your neighbor as yourself. We have no creed but Christ, no book but the Bible, no name but the divine (Christian), and no law but love. Take time to read 1 Corinthians 13 once again – what love does and what it does not do. Let us live by this proven principle – "no law but love." For love never fails. "The greatest of these is love."

Prayer: Loving Father, we need more of Your love in our hearts, overflowing to others. As we draw near to You today, fill us with Your love until it spills over into the lives of those who need Your tender touch. Through Christ we pray.
