From Faith to Folly

"Then they believed His words; they sang His praise. Then soon forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel" (Psalm 106:12,13 NKJV).
How quickly we forget the word of God and the works of God! After their miraculous deliverance at the Red Sea, Israel believed God's words and sang His praise. But it was not long (in fact it was "soon") until they forgot His works and didn't wait for His counsel. Oh, Israel. Oh, church. Oh, self!
This is a trip none of us want to be on – from faith to folly. Have you ever gone to church, heard God's Word, sang His praise, and then within hours – maybe even minutes – forgot all about His Word and did not seek His counsel? How quickly we can slide from faith to folly. Let us always believe His words and sing His praise. But let us also remember His works and seek His counsel. Meditation and prayer are good ways to do this.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we never forget the way You have worked in our lives. Help us in time of need to seek Your counsel. And may we always believe Your word and sing Your praise! Through Christ we pray.
