"Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand" (2 Corinthians 1:24 NKJV).

No one except the Lord Jesus Christ should have dominion over your faith. Faith is a personal thing. No one can believe for you or command you to believe exactly as they believe. Dominating personalities are doing a dangerous thing by exercising dominion over the faith of believers. Turn on the TV and watch how some of them operate. They ask people to start affirming things before the people even have a chance to think of what they are saying. This is not a healthy exercise.

We are to live by faith in Christ, walk by faith in Christ, and stand in our Christian faith. The great apostle Paul did not lord it over others but rather said, "we work with you for your joy" (NIV). Accept the help that others offer in your Christian experience but do not surrender your mind and soul to those who would seek dominion over your faith. Those in Berea were more noble than those in Thessalonica because "they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see of what Paul said was true" (Acts 17:11 NIV). Should we do any less?

Prayer: Father, we are grateful for those who have taught us the Word. Our faith comes from hearing that Word. But may we never allow another - besides You - to have dominion over our faith. Through Christ we pray.
