What We Shall Become

"Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we will be like him, because we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2 ESV).
In our first full-time ministry (Lexington, Nebraska), my wife and I would visit the shut-ins on Sunday and serve them Communion. One lady, a Mrs. Lake, would always quote this verse before we left. This thought was constant in her mind – that when Christ appears again we will be like Him.
What we were before we became a Christian was not very pretty to behold. What we are in Christ is much better! But what we shall become is best of all. Why? Because we will be like Him in all his purity. Perhaps that's why John goes on to say, "And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure" (v. 3). Thinking about the return of Christ, therefore, should have a purifying effect on our thoughts, words, and deeds.
Praise: And we shall behold Him, we shall behold Him face to face in all of His glory. O we shall behold Him, we shall behold Him face to face, our Savior and Lord (Dottie Rambo).
