Two Essentials This entry was posted on 01-28-2007 and is filed under Devotional. "For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers" (Ephesians 1:15 NIV).
How would you have felt the day this letter from the great apostle Paul was read in the assembly (that's the way they did in the first century since no one had a personal copy of the Scriptures). To know that the great man continually thanked God for you! But notice the two stated reasons why Paul prayed for them constantly. He had heard things about them. What things had he heard? Two essentials for every Christian everywhere! FAITH in CHRIST and LOVE for ALL the SAINTS! I once heard the honorable Judge Herbert Casteel (author, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt) say that these are the twin essentials of Christianity. I believe he was right. Let us so live so that others will see our faith in Christ (even in the tough times) and our love for all (not just those we like) the saints. Prayer: Precious Father, increase our faith in Christ and shed Your love abroad in our hearts until we love all those who love You. Through Christ we pray. |
