Be An Encourager!

"Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:25 NIV).
I believe that more people fail for lack of encouragement than any single thing. I also believe that the church assembly was designed for mutual encouragement more than anything else. When Christians put more thought and energy into encouragement, we will see a dramatic difference in our congregations.
My friend Richard M. Ellis (I studied under him in Bible college) offers these gems on encouragement.
"Encouragement is oxygen to the soul."
"People put forth greater effort under the spirit of approval than under the spirit of criticism." Preachers, are you listening?
"People tend to become what the most important people in their lives think they will become." Parents, are you listening?
"To help encourage, say something uplifting in the first 60 seconds of a conversation." I am listening! And I plan to put that one into practice, starting now!
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, thank You for giving us Your word of encouragment, that Book we call the Bible. We are grateful for all of the encouraging words we find within Your Word. Now help us to put down every negative thought, hold back on every discouraging word, and seek to make someone's life lighter and brighter today. Through Christ we pray.
