"Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:11 NKJV).

Those who die with Christ (and die to sin), are buried with Christ in Christian baptism, and rise to walk with Christ in newness of life are reminded by Paul to do some "reckoning." We are to consider or regard or think of ourselves in a different way than we used to.

Have you come to the point of "The Reckoning" in your life? It is better to do so now than to await the Final Reckoning at the Day of Judgment! Notice that this self-reckoning is two-fold. First, we are to consider ourselves dead to sin. Sin has lost its luster to the truly penitent person. What we once adored we now abhor. And second, we are to reckon ourselves alive to God. Now we are sensitive to His calling and purpose for our life. The Reckoning means sin is now a dead-end street because we are traveling the Glory Road with Christ our Savior!

Prayer: Holy Father, ever remind me that I am dead to sin and alive for Your purpose and calling in my life. May the things that once enthralled me now apall me. Through the living Christ I pray.
