"But You are God, ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, abundant in kindness..." (Nehemiah 9:17 NKJV).

It was quite a day in Israel. They stood confessing their sins before the Lord. They read from God's word for 6 hours and then confessed their sins and worshipped for 6 more hours (v. 3). I have been in a 5-hour church service before (in Eastern Europe), but never a 12-hour church service.

At the heart of their confession was a confession of Who God is. Notice our text. Does this describe the God you serve? 1. Ready to pardon. 2. Gracious and merciful. 3. Slow to anger. 4. Abundant in kindness. Who wouldn't want to serve a God like that! Take time today to read the entire 9th chapter of Nehemiah. It is one of the greatest confessional prayers in all of the Bible. What kind of impact might it have on your church body if it were read today?

Song/Prayer: Lord, my sins they are many, like the sands of the sea/But Thy blood, O my Savior, is sufficient for me/For Thy promise is written, in bright letters that glow/"Though your sins be as scarlet, I will make them like snow." (Mary A. Kidder)

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to speak at our new church plant in Troy. I referenced Nehemiah 8 regarding the peoples reverence for God's word. I should have had them read the 9th chapter also. Good stuff!

Thanks, Gary. What a rich chapter we have in Nehemiah 9. Glad it blessed your life.
