Standing By Your Side

"For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, 'Do not be afraid...'" (Acts 27:23 NKJV).

Paul was aboard a ship that had been savaged by a severe storm. In fact, "all hope that we would be saved was finally given up" (v. 20). At this critical point, at the midnight hour as it were, Paul sensed an angel standing next to him. Angels are ministering spirits sent from God to minister to the people of God in their time of need (see Hebrews 1:13,14).

Who's standing by your side? You may feel all alone but that can never be true if you are a child of God. And that is the key part of this verse. An angel stood by Paul's side...but why? Because Paul belonged to God and served God! Listen again to his testimony: "There stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve..." Angels don't stand in support of sinners or backslidden Christians. They stand by the side of those who belong to God and are serving God!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, how we thank You today for the ministry of angels! Thank You for claiming ownership of our lives and allowing us the privilege to serve You. We are humbled that You would send someone to stand by our side. Through Christ we pray.
