A Far-reaching Rage

"And I punished them often in every synagogue and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities" (Acts 26:11 NKJV).

This is the frightening testimony of Saul of Tarsus, who conducted a one-man, scorched-earth campaign to persecute Christians. Can you imagine going into a house of worship and forcing believers to recant? That's what he did. One shudders to think of what methods may have been used to elicit the recantation!

Saul's rage even drove him to persecute Christians in foreign cities. Talk about a man driven by his madness. But all this changed on the road to Damascus. After his encounter with the living Christ, Paul (as he would later come to be known) entered synagogues – but to persuade, not persecute. And he went to foreign cities – but to preach Christ, not persecute Christians. Thank God for the transforming power of the living Christ!

Song: Deeper than the ocean and wider than the sea, is the grace of the Savior for sinners like me/Sent from the Father, and it thrills my soul, just to feel and to know, that His blood makes me whole/His grace reaches me, yes, His grace reaches me, and 'twill last through eternity/Now I'm under His control and I'm happy in my soul, just to know that His grace reaches me.
