The Strictest Sect

"My manner of life from my youth...according to the strictest sect of our religion I lived as a Pharisee" (Acts 26:4,5 NKJV).
In our text today we find Paul testifying before King Agrippa. He is "telling it like it is" - or at least like it was when he was a Pharisee. You have to know where you have been before you know where you are and where you are headed. Paul was a Pharisee of all Pharisees. He wants Agrippa to know that is how he was raised.
All of us probably have a little legalism in our heritage and religious background. Perhaps you lived from your youth as a member of "the strictest sect." Then be encouraged today to know that one who was drilled in that exclusive environment found his freedom in living for Jesus instead of slavishly following man made rigid rules and regulations – raging against Christians. Now Paul could say to Agrippa, "I think myself happy" (v. 2). Happy Christians are not hopping mad at others!
Song/Prayer: O Jesus, Lord and Savior, I give myself to Thee; for Thou in Thy atonement, didst give Thyself for me/I own no other Master, my heart shall by thy throne, my life I give, henceforth to live, O Christ, for Thee alone! (T. O. Chisholm)
