The Greedy Vs. the Giver

"The desire of the lazy man kills him, for his hands refuse to labor. He covets greedily all day long, but the righteous gives and does not spare" (Proverbs 21:25,26 NKJV).
What a contrast! A lazy person, who refuses to work, sitting around all day greedily coveting everything he sees on TV or thinks about in his mind. In the meantime, the righteous person is thinking of others, and giving to others, and not sparingly at that.
There are two kinds of people in life: the givers and the takers. Or in this case, the givers and the greedy. That word "greedy" just has a creepy look and sound to it, doesn't it. Far better it is to be a "giver." God gave and did not spare in His giving. If we want to be like God, we will be unsparing givers of our time, our talents, and our treasure.
Prayer: Gracious God, empower us to be unsparing givers. Keep us from ever being lazy, greedy, and covetous. Grant us wisdom when we give and to whom we give. Through Christ we pray.
