A Reproach No More

"Then I said...'Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach'" (Nehemiah 2: 17 NKJV).
When Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem he saw how the city was in ruins - even the gates were burned with fire. He knew that Jerusalem was the city of God. What a reproach it was for this wonderful city of Zion to be in such a sad state of disrepair!
While the church of our Lord is thriving in many places, there are other places where it languishes and lies in ruins. This is a reproach to the living Christ. May God give us a holy desire to rebuild the church that His Son died for. It seems to me that healthy churches could send some of its members to help those who are in dire straits - "that we may no longer be a reproach."
Song/Prayer: I love Thy church, O God! Her walls before Thee stand/Dear as the apple of Thine eye, and graven on Thy hand/For her my tears shall fall; for her my prayers ascend/To her my cares and toils be giv'n, till toils and cares shall end. (Timothy Dwight)
