Who's Your Rabbi?

"I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers' law, and was zealous toward God as you are all today" (Acts 22:3 NKJV).
The apostle Paul was a great teacher of the word, but he remembered from whom he had received his formal training. Gamaliel was one of the finest, if not the finest, Jewish rabbis living in Jerusalem. From him Paul learned not only the Old Testament but the rabbinic traditions as well.
As I look back on my 40 years of ministry and service today, I am very thankful for my "mentor at Midwestern," Donald G. Hunt. "I was brought up in this city (Ottumwa, Iowa) at the feet of Donald G. Hunt." He was my mentor, teacher and friend for four years of study at college (1964-1968) and a lifelong friend and consultant. Who is that special "rabbi" (teacher) in your life that helped train you and make you who you are today? Please take a moment today to write them a note of thanks. If they are deceased, offer a prayer of thanksgiving for what they invested in your life.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You this day for all the "Gamaliels" in our lives who taught us and invested their lives in us. Would you help us to mentor someone who can carry on with the wonderful work of teaching the Word.
