Seeing the Light but Missing the Voice

"And those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me" (Acts 22:9 NKJV).
On the road to Damascus, a great light from heaven shone upon Saul and those who were traveling with him (to arrest more Christians). Paul's testimony is that those who were with him saw the light but did not hear the voice.
Which is more important? To see the light or hear the voice? The light terrified Saul's companions. But the voice Paul heard changed his life forever because the voice was from Christ Himself. God often used phenomena to get people's attention. He did so at Pentecost with the cloven tongues of fire. But it was the message preached on Pentecost that saved 3,000 souls. Once God gets our attention through whatever means He chooses, it is imperative that we hear the voice - and obey the voice as Saul did.
Prayer: Loving Lord, we thank You for the power of Your Word. Even though others may not hear it, may we always be listening for Your voice which can alter our lives once heard and obeyed.
Song: When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way/While we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey (John H. Sammis).
