20-20 Vision

"How I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house" (Acts 20:20 NKJV).
Because this chapter and verse in the Book of Acts make a 20:20 combination, I like to call this "Paul's 20-20 vision."
Do you have 20-20 vision? Many people do not. Paul's practice was to teach God's Word both publicly and privately. There is a need for both. Public teaching could have been in the public square (the marketplace), the synagogue, or even the temple. Private teaching, according to the text, took place in people's homes. Home Bible studies are wonderful but 20-20 vision sees the need to take it to the streets, indeed, even the Internet in blogs like "Honey from the Rock!" One final thought for today. Notice that Paul didn't hold back anything that was "helpful" (profitable). That implies that if teaching really isn't helping people, or profiting people (spiritually), it may be well to hold it back! If you are teaching the Bible, good, but make sure it is actually helping people with their daily lives!
Prayer: Faithful Lord, thank You for giving us so many helpful lessons and principles in Your Holy Word. May we never shrink from declaring that which is helpful, whether in public or in private, but may we always make sure it is indeed something that will profit people in their living for You.
