When Syrians Speak Hebrew!

"Then they called out with a loud voice in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and trouble them, that they might take the city" (2 Chronicles 32:18 NKJV).
Jerusalem was under seige by the mighty armies of Sennacherib. He sent his messengers into the city in an effort to undermine morale. Letters were mailed that maligned both Hezekian and the Lord Himself. Their final tactic was to speak to the watchmen on the wall in their native Hebrew tongue in an effort to frighten them. All was to no avail. God sent a mighty angel who destroyed them. Sennacherib himself had to creep back to Assyria in shame (v. 21).
It is a common but dangerous thing for those who do not believe in the God of Heaven to try and intimidate the people of God. Sometimes they even try to cloak themselves by speaking the language that Christians are familar with and use. They speak of faith and religion and maybe even being "born again." I would suggest that you be very leery of those who speak Hebrew when they are Syrian at heart! "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (1 Jn. 4:1).
Prayer: Father of lights, protect us from those who would seek to intimidate us or fool us by speaking in Hebrew when they represent another people and another purpose! Thank You for the ministry of angels who minister to us and for us.
