A Covenant With The King

"Then all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God"
(2 Chronicles 23:3 NKJV).
Jehoida
the priest was trying to protect the young king Joash from falling
victim to his evil grandmother, Athaliah. John MacArthur says, "This is
one of the most dramatic moments in Messianic history. The human
offspring of David had been reduced to one – Joash. If he had died,
there would have been no human heir to the Davidic throne, and it would
have mean the destruction of the line of the Messiah."
See how
important covenant with the king is? The people protected the young
king, Athaliah was slain, the altars of Baal were destroyed, and Joash
"restored the house of God" (24:13). In our assemblies we should "make
a covenant with the king [Christ] in the house of God" every time we
come together for worship and fellowship. A covenant is a sacred
agreement. We should all agree that we will exalt the King of
Righteousness and tear down the idols of unrighteousness in our lives.
God's protection of Joash extended the line of kings to Jesus. May we
continue to make covenant with our King.
Prayer/Song: Lead
on, O King Eternal, the day of march has come; henceforth in fields of
conquest Thy tents shall be our home. Thro' days of preparation Thy
grace has made us strong, and now, O King Eternal, we lift our battle
song. (Ernest W. Shurtleff)
