When the Old Becomes New

"May we know what this new doctrine is of which you
speak? For you are bringing some strange things to our ears." (Acts
17:19,20 NKJV)
I find it fascinating that the "Philosophy Club"
which met in Athens to "hear some new thing" (v. 21) considered Paul's
declaration of the resurrection of Christ to be something new. The year
is approximately A.D. 52. The resurrection had occured some 22 years
previous. Yet they considered this "new."
Two thousand years
later there are still those who have not heard the good news of Jesus'
death, burial, and resurrection. When they hear it for the first time
it is "new" to them – even though it is an old, old story (and by
"story" I do not mean fable – I mean fact). The gospel sounds strange
to the ears of those who have been living in a world of "hearing some
new thing" perpetuated by Oprah, Dr. Phil, and Larry King Live. Share
the "old" news of Jesus with someone soon. He/she might consider it
"new" but it just may bring new life to them - life in Christ.
Song: Tell
me the same old story, when you have cause to fear that this world's
empty glory is costing me too dear. Yes, and when that world's glory is
dawining on my soul, tell me the Old, Old Story: 'Christ Jesus makes
thee whole." (Kate Hankey)
