American Idols

"Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit
was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to
idols" (Acts 17:16 NKJV).
Ancient Athens was said to have had
more idols than citizens! They had so many idols that Paul even found
among their "objects of worship" an altar with the inscription: TO THE
UNKNOWN GOD. The Athenians wanted to make sure they had paid homage to
every idol conceivable!
One of the most-watched TV programs
today is "American Idol." Athenian idolatry has nothing on American
idolatry. Here is a vital question: Is your spirit provoked within you
when you see that our country is given over to idols? Or are we
actually paying homage to modern idols when we devote more of our lives
to them than we do to the true and living God? Our cities are littered
with every form of idolatry imaginable - the "almighty dollar," illicit
sex, possessions, and perhaps the worst of all, the idol of SELF.
Song/Prayer: Lord
Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole; I want Thee forever to live in my
soul. Break down every idol, cast out every foe - Now wash me and I
shall be whiter than snow. (James Nicholson)
