The King's Heart

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes" (Proverbs 21:1 NKJV).
Just
as a gardner could raise or lower the level of water in irrigation in
the Middle East, so God can easily change the course of direction in
one who governs a nation. Just because he is a king (or she is a queen)
does not mean that they have supreme authority. All authority,
ultimately, resides in and with Almighty God.
Even the heart of
the most brutal dictator is in the hands of God. Remember the story of
Pharaoh? God changed the rivers of water (his heart) so His people
could go free. Since God is open to the prayers of His people, we
should pray for the heart of the king, that it will be pliable
and yielding in the hands of the King of kings! The course of human
affairs can be altered by the prayer-hearing, prayer-answering God we
serve!
Prayer: Sovereign Lord, we bow before You this day
recognizing Your supreme authority. We know that the heart of every
king or queen rests in Your hands. May they be chanels of blessing in
Your hands, we pray through Christ our Lord.
