Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for he had the daughter of
Ahab as a wife; and he did evil in the sight of the LORD" (2 Chronicles
21:6 NKJV).
Ahab and Jezebel were the Bonnie and Clyde of the Bible. No one names their daughter Jezebel to this day. Jehoram's marriage to Ahab and Jezebel's daughter, Athaliah, was a marriage made in hell. When Jehoram died eight years later ("to no one's sorrow", v. 20), his son Ahaziah became king. But the power behind the throne was wicked Ataliah. When Ahaziah died, she murdered all the heirs to the throne. Be careful who you marry. The late A. Word said, "If you marry a child of the devil don't be surprised if you have trouble with your father-in-law!" Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for all the wonderful examples we see of good Christian wives and mothers. How we need their influence in the church and in the community today. Bless them for all their efforts to model Your love and Your ways. |
