Be Fair-Minded

"These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica,
in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the
Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11
NKJV).
Having been forced to flee from Thessalonica, Paul and
Silas came to Berea, where they taught the Word of God. The Bereans
were a fair-minded people, and gave heed to their teaching. Not only
that, they even "cross-referenced" Paul's teaching to make sure he was
teaching accurately.
We need to be as fair-minded as the
Bereans. Always be ready to study the Word of God. Always "cross-check"
what you are hearing with what the Word actually says. If more people
would do this, fewer would be deceived by some cult or sect that uses
mainly proof-texts in their teaching. A text without a context is a
pretext. Let us follow the fine example of the noble citizens of Berea!

me the Bible, Holy message shining; Thy light shall guide me in the
narrow way; precept and promise, law and love combining, 'til night
shall vanish in eternal day. (Priscilla J. Owens)
