In Only Three Weeks!

"Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for
three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures..." (Acts 17:2
NKJV).
This verse has always fascinated me. Paul spent only
three Sabbath days in the city of Thessalonica (today Saloniki). Yet
look at what happened. According to Adam Clarke, a church that was
started in less than one month stood until A.D. 1431. It was the last
church to withstand the onslaught of the Mohammaden Turks.
This
passage shows how important it is to build on a good foundation. Paul
had only three Sabbath days to teach in the synagogue, but he did such
a good job that a church was not only established but it endured all
those centuries of time! His message was Christ-centered (see v. 3). A
"great multitude" were persuaded. Even though opposition arose and Paul
and Silas had to leave by night for another city, the church stood firm
for all those years. Who knows what might happen if you sow the seed
even for a few weekends?
Prayer: Holy Father, we take heart at
the humble beginnings of this great church. May we simply preach
Christ, even if we are only in a place for a little time, and trust You
for long-lasting results!
