"Our Eyes Are Upon You"

"O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no
power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we
know what to do, but our eyes are upon You " (2 Chronicles 20:12 NKJV).
My
friend Joe Garman calls this prayer of Jehoshaphat "the greatest prayer
in the Old Testament." Judah was surrounded by a coalition of armies from
Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir. Jehoshaphat knew that Judah's only hope
was in God. So he prayed this mighty prayer (read it in its entirety in
vs. 5-12).
Things haven't changed all that much. Ever since
Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has been under seige from terrorists (from
the line of the same people who were terrorizing Judah). They are set
upon the destruction of Israel and would seek to kill as many of us as
they can. While remaining vigilant at all times, we should also pray
the prayer of Jehoshaphat and keep our eyes fixed permanently on the
One who rules over all the kingdoms of the nations, in Whose hand is
awesome power and might (v. 6).
Prayer: O our God, will You
not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that
is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon
You.
