Beggars to be Admired

"So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the
Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next
Sabbath" (Acts 13:42 NKJV).
When I was a kid I always liked it
when beggars came to the door. My parents were willing to feed them -
if they were willing to work. That mean't I wouldn't have to mow the
lawn or rake the yard that day. I was glad for the beggars to come.
Here
are some beggars to be admired. The Gentiles in Antioch begged the
apostles to preach to them too! Verse 44 says, "On the next Sabbath
almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God." The
population of Antioch at this time was about 500,000. Thanks to the
beggars, this may have been the largest audience ever to hear a gospel
sermon in the New Testament era!
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the beggars of Antioch! Give us beggars today who desire to hear Your Holy Word preached in our cities!
