"Now, my God, I pray, let Your eyes be open and let Your ears be attentive to the prayer made in this place" (2 Chronicles 6:40 NKV).

Solomon offered this prayer at the dedication of the temple. It is a good prayer to offer anytime we are in the house of the Lord. Whenever I am in Eastern Europe, I am impressed by what worshippers do when they enter the house of the Lord, kneeling and pausing for prayer before entering into worship.

If God's eyes are not open and His ears are not attentive to our prayers, what good is it to pray? This seems to be a prayer that we should pray anytime and anywhere we find ourselves to be. It is a stark reminder to us of how much we need the attention of the Lord.

Prayer: I need Thy presence every passing hour; what but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. (Henry F. Lyte)
